As most of us have been staying indoors and trying to adapt to the changes around us, the young ones across the country have found creative and innovative ways of utilising their time. From creating artwork to building models for school projects, there are plenty of examples out there.

To take this creativity and talent of the young ones forward, Konrai Foundation, a public charitable trust based out of Bengaluru, has organised an online contest for those below 20 years of age.

Guidelines for participating in the “Reflections 2020” contest

Age Category

Participants should be 20 years or below as of April 30, 2020. There will be two age categories:

  • Juniors: 14 years or below as of  April 30, 2020
  • Seniors: 15 years to  below 20 years as of April 30, 2020

Process

  • Participants need to first register within the deadline April 12, 2020 and receive an ID to be able to submit their work. 
  • Submissions will have to be sent to writeto@konrai.org in the format recommended under each category.
  • The subject of the email and the name of the submitted file should follow the following outline:
     <Category Name> <Registration ID> Eg: Dance100. 
  • Participants can only submit one entry per category but can submit entries in all six categories. If a participant submits more than one submission in the same category, the first submission sent will be the one evaluated.
  • If submitting to more than one category, please send separate emails for each submission
  • Participants’ names must not appear on any work – whether in the file name or in the submission itself (signatures, watermarks, etc.)
  • If you decide not to participate after registering, please write to us at writeto@konrai.org with the subject line <Not participating>
  • Work will have to be on the Theme: “Life in the time of COVID-19”
  • Plagiarised material will not be given for evaluation. 
  • Entries that do not comply with the guidelines will be disqualified 
  • Individual entries only. Group registration and submissions not entertained because of social distancing norms.
  • Ownership of the submission will remain with the creator, and the creator’s consent will be asked for before the work is published
  • Results will be announced by May 31, 2020. Jury’s decision will be final.  

Category Specific Guidelines

SHORT STORY

Nature of entries

  • Work will have to be on the given theme
  • The work should not have been previously published.
  • The work should be titled
  • All work must be in English.

Length

  • Total word count should not exceed 2500 words (inclusive of the title)

Format

  • Must be typed using double line spacing, Arial Font, Size-12. 
  • Submissions should be sent as a PDF file, following the naming conventions outlined in “General Guidelines”

POETRY

Nature of entries

  • Work will have to be on the given theme and should not have been previously published.
  • All work must be in English.

Length

  • Poem may be no more than 60 lines
  • If the poem exceeds this limit, the excess lines will be ignored

Format

  • Must be typed using double line spacing, Arial Font, Size-12. 
  • Work must be sent as a PDF file following the naming conventions outlined in “General Guidelines”

PHOTOGRAPHY

Nature of entries

  • Work should not have been previously featured/ published
  • Submission may be a single photo or a story sequence of upto 3 photos with a title.
  • Photo(s) should have been taken in the last 45 days. Photos should carry a title.
  • Basic editing,including colour enhancement, the use of filters and cropping of the photo(s) is acceptable, provided any such editing does not affect the authenticity of the photo clicked.
  • Advanced editing used to create illusions, deceptions and or manipulations and the adding and removing of significant elements within the frame is prohibited. 

Format

  • Images to be submitted in JPEG format. No compressed files.
  • All submitted photo(s) must contain the original EXIF metadata information.
  • The jury reserves the right to call for original JPEG or RAW files with unchanged  EXIF for the purpose of authentication. An image may be disregarded if this information is not provided.

PAINTINGS

Nature of entries

  • Work should not have been previously featured/ displayed/published 
  • Entries must be original creations. Compositions based on published material or other artists’ work are NOT considered original and are not eligible.
  • Paintings executed in a workshop under another artist‘s supervision or paintings based on another person’s photograph (even if it’s copyright-free) are NOT eligible.
  • Title of the painting if any can be shared on the email.

Media and Size:

  • Accepted media Oil, oil pastel, soft pastel, charcoal, graphite, ink, colored pencil, watercolor, casein, gouache, acrylic, digital art, mixed media (all water media or oil based media); silver or other metal point, collage; mixed media collage; handmade paper; wax and other crayons on paper or board.
  • Minimum Size A4 

Format

  • The file naming convention has to be as per guidelines shared above. 
  • Work must be sent as a scanned document or a digital file in JPG or PDF format, size not exceeding 5 MB to ensure ease of uploading and downloading. Do not send compressed files. If you see this as a limitation please write to us.
  • All participants should be prepared to send a high resolution print quality file if their entry gets selected. 

DANCE

Nature of entries

  • Work will have to be an original creation on the given theme and should not be a copy of any previous presentations or productions.
  • All dance forms are accepted as long as presented in its authentic form
  • It has to be an original creation by the artist and not under the guidance of teachers.
  • Junior participants can seek inputs from adults for they will be evaluated more on effective execution

Length

  • 4 minutes production + an additional 30s for introducing the item

Format

  • Must be a mp4 format file. 
  • Please ensure the recording is of good quality. This includes the music used.

MUSIC

Nature of entries

  • Work will have to be an original musical composition by the artist on the given theme and should not be a copy of any previous presentations
  • For the purpose of this competition both the lyrics and music should be original and should not be already presented elsewhere.
  • Junior partipants can be guided by adults in the area of composition as they will be evaluated more on effective execution.
  • All genres are accepted. 

Length

  • Must be 4 minutes or under

Format

  • Must be a mp4 format file. 
  • Please ensure the recording is of good quality.
