The various communities in our ward celebrated Independence day with fervour and enthusiasm.
Mantri Flora residents had a Saawan Mela after the Independence Day programme, where women participated in various events and put up stalls for food and games. Goonj, an NGO, had a stall where the residents contributed clothes for needy children.
The function at Reliable Residency, Haralur started with flag hoisting by a resident and chief guest, Bhaskar Rao, followed by National Anthem. The chief guest spoke a few words about the celebration and words of advice to children to become responsible citizens of our nation, followed by introduction of all the residents. At Srinivasa’s Signature, Bellandur, the residents organised a fancy dress contest for the small children and Painting competition for children above three. The flag hoisting was followed by snacks.
Independence Day at Sobha Quartz saw flag hoisting followed by the singing of the National Anthem. A very large part of the Quartz community were present. There was a fancy dress competition for children under ten – we had everyone from Rani Jhansi to Superman to Chota Bhim on display. This was followed by some very colorful and robust dance performances by groups of children in the 4-15 age group. A sumptuous lunch was laid out while over a dozen games were set up for children and parents alike . If that was not enough, we had a merry-go-around & a camel on hand to give the kids a ride. Towards the end of the celebration, the rain gods opened up almost on cue to bring the event to a wet end. All in all, a very enjoyable occasion. And a great way to begin the 64th year of our independence.
