Commissioner requests to keep the city clean during Deepavali

BBMP has taken preventive measures to maintain cleanliness in the city and to avoid accidents while bursting crackers during Deepavali festival.

The people should see to it that they do not pollute the environment while celebrating the festival. The harmful smoke from crackers can cause many lung related ailments in children. As such, people are requested to burst only few crackers to protect the environment.

The commissioner has requested the people not to sell pooja items, flowers, firecrackers, etc on the footpaths and not to dump the garbage on the roads.

Everyday around 3500 tons of garbage is generated in Bangalore city. During Ayudha Pooja it had increased by 14,000 tons. This year firecracker sales is expected to be worth 100 crores and hence more garbage will be generated. This garbage may clog the roads and drains resulting in water logging.

The Commissioner has asked the Health Department and the public to take the following measures.

  1. People should not dump firecrackers garbage in the roadside drains and must dispose them in garbage bins and vans.
  2. Health department workers must ensure that drains are not blocked with garbage, paper pieces, plastic pieces, etc and that there is smooth water flow.
  3. People should co-operate with the BBMP workers to clean the roads by not parking their vehicles on the roadsides.
  4. BBMP has alerted hospitals to provide emergency care for injuries and accidents caused due to firecrackers.
  5. All the Operational officers of BBMP have to take responsibility of their respective Wards for cleanliness.
  6. For complaints and emergencies, call the control room – Nos 22660000/22221188/22975595

Keeping these in view, the people are requested to cooperate with the BBMP during Deepavali celebrations.
