Bengaluru is a globally recognized city for its IT and startup industry thus providing livelihood for millions of people across the country and also has been the growth engine of the state. Ironically, the civic condition of Bengaluru is in a mess, inadequate infrastructure, traffic congestion, air pollution, water crisis are all the issues that needs to be addressed and fixed. When we ask tough questions then everybody is passing the buck to the other.
Someone has to address the elephant in the room. B.CLIP Alumni Association has conceptualized “BANGALORE 2.0” a campaign towards building a “Better Bengaluru” through which we plan to engage with the government and all civic agencies to work for the betterment of city and frame policies that suits the current scenario. Walkathon, debates, conferences and a host of other programmes are planned as a part of this initiative.
|Date: 15 February 2020
Time: 8:00 am to 10:00 am

Around 3,000 people are expected to join this walkathon. This initiative is supported by all major civic groups with a common goal of achieving better governance for Bengaluru city. Citizens for Bengaluru, CIVIC, Maanava Foundation, Nisarga Seva Foundation, citizens for Bengaluru, Humanity Foundation, Anvaya Foundation, NSS and NCC cadets are also joining this cause.
- The power of making ward reservation and delimitation which currently rests with State government should be transferred to the State Election Commission
- Technology should be used to bring transparency in BBMP administration
- Announcement of Ward reservations must be made at least six months before the BBMP election is done
- Tenure of the Mayor should be longer and increased to 5 years
- There should be complete transparency in the formation and functioning of ward committees
- Effective running of Metropolitan Planning Committee
- Increase in honorarium of the BBMP Corporators
Speaking at the press conference, Srinivas Alavilli of Citizens for Bengaluru said “a big part of the problems of Bengaluru come from gaps in governance. Dynamic city needs dynamic governance! That’s why we are happy to partner with the B.CLIP alumnus to bring governance reform – our city deserves better. When citizens and politicians collaborate to review the issues honestly and make transformative changes, everyone wins. We invite all citizens to add your video to these demands by joining our symbolic walk on Saturday from Vidhana Soudha to BBMP – the power center for the city must move to Corporation!”
Sudheendra M.G, senior functionary B.CLIP Alumni Association said that decentralization leads to a more robust and efficient administration of the city. The need of the hour is to give more power to the right people. So decentralize power and pass on more power to BBMP for a better Bengaluru.
We request all concerned citizens’ full co-operation for this initiative so that we can join hands for the betterment and create a Better Bengaluru.
