Citizens Traffic Forum – a B-TRAC Initiative

In continuation of several initiatives taken by B-TRAC to address the traffic woes of Bangalore city, another citizen friendly programme is being launched on 15th Oct’ 2011 – Citizens Traffic Forum. A special programme under which the citizens can actually participate and contribute their valuable opinions, thoughts, suggestions to solve their locality’s traffic related problems. Starting tomorrow every third Saturday of the month all Traffic Police Stations will have the forum between 11.30 am to 1.30 pm.

Public are requested to make use of this opportunity and join hands with the Bangalore Traffic Police to find solutions.  Traffic Inspectors will be available to receive the complaints regarding traffic jams, parking etc. Also the public can visit the successive forums to find out the steps taken to solve the complaints.

The department’s website and facebook receive several traffic related complaints from across the city and the same would be directed to the local traffic police station. However it was difficult to find out whether the problems were sorted out or not as there was no feedback mechanism. In cases where the problems were solved citizens would not write back to the department. Since most of the traffic problems are locality based, it was decided to create the ‘Citizens Traffic Forum’ so that the pubic can represent their problems and get it addressed in the respective traffic stations.

Traffic Management Committee:

It has been decided to create Traffic Management Committees in all the areas where in Citizens, Resident Welfare Associations, NGOs, Companies, Institutions etc. can become a part of the committee and help address the problems. They can put forth their suggestions, requests concerns etc. for the inspectors perusal. This programme will be supervised by senior officers of the department to monitor the progress.
